In warm cosy Lappish hut the mine visitors hear the fascinating stories of amethyst, how it was formed 2 000 000 millions of years ago, how the place was found and how the mine is run on permanent progress principle, how people in all cultures have believed in the mystical powers of amethyst and other interesting tales found in ancient legends. After stories the visitors are guided to the mine and each will dig and find a personal lucky amethyst for keeps. The Little Mine Shop in Luosto recreation village provides information about the mine and has a fine selection of amethyst treasures, needful things and extraordinary objects.

Salt mine
Description: The visiting of the 20 historic chambers connected by 2 kilometres of passages lasts approximately 1 hour 50 minutes. The descent to the Mine is by the stairs (380 steps) to the Level 1 (at the depth of 64 metres). The return to the surface is by lift up the Danilowicz Shaft, from the Level 3 (at the depth of 135 metres). The temperature in the Mine, though constant is low (14oC i.e. 57oF).

Journey into the Heart of the Mother Lode
Sutter Gold Mine is a modern hard rock mine located on historic Highway 49 just north of Sutter Creek, south of Amador City at the site of several historic mines. These include the Lincoln Mine from which Leland Stanford made his fortune enabling him to found Stanford University and to partner in financing the Central Pacific Railroad.
Although originally developed for gold extraction in the late 1980s, the mine is now open exclusively for one hour underground tours deep into the heart of the Motherlode.
Sutter Gold Mine offers a comprehensive look into the gold mining process and its historical progression from gold panning and hydraulic mining to hard rock techniques. Besides that, it’s just plain fun to go underground and see what’s usually only seen by miners: the inside of the Earth.
